Successful Australian inner-city community gardens

Updated: Sep 28, 2020

Inner-city living has resulted in many of us settling for smaller outdoor areas. While the idea of a sprawling garden might sound appealing to some, it's not realistic for everyone's lifestyles. But just because you have chosen the urban life it doesn't necessarily mean you can't have a pretty petite oasis of your own to enjoy.

When designing a smaller garden area you will most likely need to be more creative and clever about how you use your space. You might not be able to have everything you want, but overcrowding it will make it feel small and cramped. Consider utilising walls and other verticals - It's a fantastic way to make a garden feel bigger and look more lush! It's also worth considering incorporating things that serve multiple purposes e.g. building retaining walls at seat height.

Take inspiration from these unique urban spaces that are filled with ideas.
